Latest News!

Hello everyone, just a quick update on this blog to say I had an appointment with my dermatologist today. I mentioned how the Stelara seems to be failing at around week ten. and between us we have decided to go for another try, but this time having a shot every 10 weeks instead of 12.

This could be my last post on this blog as I don't know if anyone is reading it or if it is helping anyone. I have now got the new  Psoriasis Club Forum up and running and even if I say so myself, it's looking good. I keep a thread going on there with updates so you are probably better off checking it out if you want to keep up with how things are with me and the dreaded P.

Hope to see some of you there. take care and keep well.

New look Psoriasis Club!

Hello everyone I hope your all keeping well ? I have had a hectic time in the last few months. we have now sold our house and have moved into the mobile home. we will probably be building a new house next year. I have also been working hard on the New Psoriasis Club Forum.

The Stelara is still working although I do have a couple of small patches on my legs, but nothing to bad. and they do say moving house is one of the most stressful things you can do. even if it was only 100 Mts away :)

Next appointment with my original dermatologist who is back after having a baby is on 19th October. I will be glad to see her back. the other one was ok but there is nothing better than talking to someone who knows your history.

Well that's all for the moment. I hope you can find time to come and see us on the new forum. it's been given a big facelift with a nice fresh look, new software, and our own domain. www.psoriasisclub.org

Look forward to seeing you soon, take care and keep well.

Time for a bit of a quick update.

I have mentioned this before and have been keeping track of it. The Stelara is starting to tail off again, it usually starts dropping off at week 8 and by week 10 I notice it is not working so well, but this time it's dropped off a bit sooner.

It's another 24 days till my next injection and the Psoriatic Arthritis has been playing up, and today it is bad. However I should point out that I have been wound up this last couple of weeks after loosing my dog, so this obviously could be affecting it.

Got a bit of a headache and feel like I'm getting a cold. This is unusual as I tend to get this feeling after the injection. So will have to keep an eye on it for the next few days.

My skin is still doing OK apart from a few little patches on my legs. But nothing to give to much concern. Eosoniphiles in my blood results still remain high.

Next appointment 1st August.

Stelara 4 year results show stability

Stelara 4 year results show stability: "New findings presented from pooled analyses of the STELARA (ustekinumab) psoriasis clinical development program showed that the safety profile of STELARA and rates of adverse events remained consistent and stable over time in adults with moderate to severe plaque psoriasis receiving up to four years of treatment.

Investigators also reported findings from an analysis of four placebo-controlled Phase 3 trials across patient populations on three continents and found that the efficacy and safety of STELARA in patients of Japanese and Korean-Taiwanese descent were consistent with findings previously reported in North American and European populations. Both sets of data were presented at the 22nd World Congress of Dermatology in Seoul, Korea."

Stelara one year on (an update)

It's exactly one year today that I had my first shot of Stelara, I still don't know if anyone is reading this or not, but anyway it's helped me to be able to look back on how it's been going. and on one occasion it was helpful to show my dermatologist a photo of my head when I had a small outbreak of Pustular, which thankfully hasn't come back again.

Well my verdict after one year of Stelara ? Bloody Marvelous! although I had 16 months of almost clear skin with Enbrel, Stelara has definitely been the best. in fact at times I have been 100% clear. It's not been perfect "see my other posts on this blog" but it has given me the clearest skin for over 30 years (see photos).

When I first started on Stelara I did get a flu like feeling after the injection and a few headaches, also felt a bit tired now and again.  I still get a bit of a fuzzy head and feel tired after the injection but it only lasts a few days, but now I think I'm getting used to it as it doesn't seem to be bothering me so much.

It's not so good at helping the psoriatic arthritis as the other bio's, but I have managed to get through the winter. I'm lucky as I don't have to hold down a full time job as I think I would struggle with the PA. It's the damp and cold that affect it the most, but I get by and having clear skin helps me keep a positive attitude.

It's difficult to describe the feeling of psoriatic arthritis, but when it's mild as it is with Stelara  it feels like ice cold water running through my bones. without Stelara it's one of the most painful things I have ever known, and when you get to the stage of not being able to walk or even hold a cup to your mouth, then any relief is worth it.

I know Stelara is still a relatively new drug and in the long term we don't know what could happen, but for the the life I'm living at the moment it's well worth it. I also hold in the back of my mind that the Enbrel failed after 16 months, but my dermatologist is keeping a good eye on me and I have just completed many tests and examinations. and for the moment the only thing that is causing a bit of concern is the high Eosinophils in my blood results.

When I started the Psoriasis Club Forum I also made a score system to keep a track of how well I was doing. and when I first started I was scoring 35, today my score is 7. if you want to check yours you can find it Here:

I have been given a new prescription to continue with Stelara, and my next injection is next week. so to sum up, I can say that I am very happy one year on with Stelara.

If you are reading this, thank you.

Liver Update

Got the news about my liver and everything is OK. it has a little bit of fat around it but not to bad, and its all working fine which I'm pleased to hear.

They did say I could do with loosing a little weight and should try to reduce my cholesterol count as it's slightly over the max. But the most important thing is that it's working well and the medication hasn't caused any problems.

I have to have a check up every two years from now on just to keep an eye on it, but I can carry on with the Stelara and will continue having monthly blood tests.

So all in all good news and the spring is on the way so I will be getting lots of sun, should also help the Psoriatic Arthrits too as the weather gets better.

Thanks to anyone reading will update after next appointment.

Don't forget you can sometimes find me on the forum: http://psoriasisclub.forumotion.org

Take care.
